Movieforum Turns Seven At TIFF 2006
Movieforum.com has relaunched its blog incarnation for daily coverage of the 31th annual Toronto International Film Festival beginning this coming Thursday, September 7, 2006. Once again the wonderful folks at TIFF HQ have welcomed us back, so we must be doing something right...
As always, our Canadian correspondent Robert J. Lewis will provide coverage of various happenings from his home turf in Toronto (and if you enjoy Robert's reviews and opinionating on cinematic minutia, you'll want to check out his personal site Nadaland on a regular basis to get you through the long wait between festivals).
This year looks to be another glorious assault of all possible subjects and sensibilities, with new films from Guillermo Del Toro, Katsuhiro Otomo, Ken Loach, Takashi Miike, Christopher Guest, Werner Herzog, Darren Aranofsky, Pedro Almodovar, and Paul Verhoeven to name but a few. How can any self-respecting maven not be excited about an anthology between Joe Dante, Monte Hellman, and Ken Russell? And to those of you who have seen his devastating short "Aftermath", the debut feature from Nacho Cerda should be reason enough to brave the Ryerson campus at midnight and stand in multiple lines if necessary (and believe you me, you will).
BTW, we've just turned seven, so remember, all gifts must be either copper or wool...
